The Battlefords Provincial Park, Saskatchewan

The Battlefords Provincial Park, located on the north shore of Jackfish lake, is getting us closer to Edmonton (just in time for SweetPea’s consult with the Vet).  Another reasonably large campground with almost 300 sites and lots of amenities (showers, laundry, horseshoe pits, etc).

After the first night there is no-one else in our camp loop, so nice and quiet and we don’t have to share the vault/marine toilet. This is the second campground that we have encountered marine style toilets (pull up to add water, press down to flush). Strange.

Nice service centres again, with showers, flush toilets and laundry facilities.

Fire ban in effect so no roasted marshmellows.

Lots more of those sticky bud scales which are adhering to the bottom of my shoes like they have been superglued there! May need new shoes if I can’t get this yucky stuff off.

A little concerned that one of the wheels on Rosita is leaking bearing grease. We just had a new axle and wheel bearings installed less than two weeks ago. I put the trailer up on jacks and didn’t find any play or binding in the wheel, so hopefully it is just excess grease leaking out of the dust cap. We’ll clean off the grease and keep an eye on it.

The hiking trails from the campground are actually mowed! More like strolling than hiking.

We were surprised at the rolling hills in Saskatchewan. We always thought that the province’s terrain was fairly flat (not).

The campground trail we followed intersected with an 18 hole disc golf course and of course we got lost and ended up following a couple of holes instead of the trail.  Not to worry, we didn’t get lost and die (as evidenced by this post), but it did add about 10k to our 4k hike. Ok, it was only about another 1k to our hike, but it was hot and the dogs weren’t keen on doing more than necessary!
