Rosie gets some TLC

Rosie is in need of a little TLC. The heavy truck that hit us in Scotland caused some damage and having all of our cargo boxes strapped down in the rear storage compartment (aka “the garage”) is a pain in the … when you are trying to find something.

We are heading back to AllTruck, the Mercedes Truck Service Centre in Falkirk, that we took Rosie to when we had a steering fluid leak. They were very nice and fixed us up quickly the first time, so we thought we would use them again. Not too far out of our way, and we know we can stay overnight nearby (at the Kelpies).

The service bays at AllTruck are huge, and the trucks hoists are more than big enough to lift Rosie’s 16 tons!

In addition to getting the damage repaired we are also here to get a full engine and chassis service done. It doesn’t need to be done yet, but we are heading to Morocco and the desert for three months, so rather get it done now (not sure if we can find a Mercedes truck service centre in the middle of the desert).

We are also picking up a full set of spare filters and a few other parts that we might need and may be hard to source in Morocco.

AllTruck gets everything done in just a few hours and we are back on the road. Thanks AllTruck!

Our next stop is Simmerath, Germany where FAS Expedition has been working on some storage racks and boxes for us.

Rosie just fits into the FAS workshop!
We emptied the contents of Rosie's garage onto FAS's workshop floor, and it is a bit of a pile!
Final assembly of the garage rack system.
Sliding garage rack installed!
And it slides out on either side. Nice!

FAS did an incredible job of both the design and installation of the sliding garage rack. The rack also had some extra features we didn’t request, but are glad to have: pull out trays at each end of the rack; metal cupboards at each end of the rack; an electric brake system that holds the rack in place; and solid steel bars as a safety measure to stop the rack from sliding through the garage doors in extreme conditions.

FAS also built and installed a storage box for over the front cab. Some nice additional storage space for us!  Thanks FAS.

We are ready for Morocco!
