USA Today

Left Rondeau Provincial Park and head towards the USA. Crossed the border at Detroit. Got a nice photo (above) from the Ambassador bridge, between Windsor Ontario and Detroit USA.

Traffic on the bridge got heavier as we moved to the US side of the bridge and we got waved into the truck lane for US Customs clearance. Not many trucks in line for customs (bonus!).

The Customs window was too high (built for transport trucks, not Chevy Suburbans), so I had to get out of the Sub in order to hand over our passports.  A few standard questions (where you from? where you going? how long are you going for? how much money are you bringing in? Any fruits veg etc?) and we were on our way, with the added bonus of not having to pay the bridge toll (apparently commercial truckers don’t pay bridge tolls).

Destination today is Mounds State Park, Indiana(https://www.in.gov/dnr/state-parks/parks-lakes/mounds-state-park/?utm_source=Web&utm_medium=&utm_campaign=&utm_term=&utm_content=).

Our Garmin GPS led us astray: it took us to a road that dead-ended at an airport runway. Garmin said “leave road here”. We decided to find an alternative route using google maps on a cell phone (much easier than dodging planes).

In the image on the right you can just see the airport runway in the distance. No flights since we parked and all quiet, except for a few minutes of weird firecracker-like noises which we thought may be from the airport scaring birds or other wildlife (deer?) off the runway).

Trip Summary:

No tree coverage today, so out comes the Starlink antenna and fire it up… no “Rosie” wifi network, but did find a wifi network we haven’t seen before: “STINKY”.  After much wailing and gnashing of teeth (and some google searching) we discover that Starlink will reset the network SSID to “STINKY” if the power is cycled three times in a row (quite easy to do we we are setting up the antenna). So reset the network parameters (from scratch) and we are good to go.

Gas Summary (fill-ups):

   Odometer: 202659km, 14.75g @ US$3.68/g (US$54.46)

   Odometer: 203020km, 23.78g @ US$3.80/g (US$90.33)
